Elan Valley
Elan Valley has always been
popular with our customers, winning a place in
the hearts of all who cruise on her and getting
many repeat bookings. Easy to manoeuvre and
cosy, this traditional tug style craft has
proven ideal for beginners, solo boaters and
couples alike.
However, Elan’s Visit Britain
two star rating was in contrast with the rest of
our fleet, most of which have the maximum five
star rating. We decided Elan needed some love
and attention and sent her to visit our good
friends John and Liz at Grand Waterway Boat
Building. … Some 3 months, a full refurbishment,
a total repaint and £17,000 later, Elan has
become a little jewel in Excellence Afloat at
Valley Cruises’ crown. |

Her interior was
completely stripped out. She has new
wooden panels on the walls, a new
ceiling and brand new flooring.
|
|
|
All the electrics
have been replaced, giving us the
opportunity to put spot lighting in the
ceiling and 240v sockets in useful
places. |
|
|
All the furniture is
newly built using real wood. Elan has a
brand new sofa bed with drop down table
opposite, a wardrobe, drawers and a wet
locker. Even though we were frequently
told that the bed was very comfortable,
we have given her new upholstery with a
thicker mattress. |
|
|
The galley has been
completely rebuilt, has a domestic style
four ring hob, full sized oven, brand
new sink and lots of attractive
cupboards and shelves. |
|
|
A rearrangement of
the internal features and a full
re-plumb has enabled us to increase the
size of the bathroom so that there is
now a hand basin next to the loo and a
much bigger shower, complete with glass
tiles and a stylish screen. |
|
|
The solid fuel stove
has been kept by popular demand. It has
had a professional clean and has been
refitted on its own attractively tiled
base. It should now prove much easier
for even the novice to light and enjoy
but we have also added a radiator to
offer our guests the option of ‘instant
heating’! |

|
The engine bay, water
tank and gas locker have been stripped
bare and repainted. The engine itself
has been reconditioned. |
|
|
The front deck has
had permanent seating built in and the
cratch cover has been furnished with two
‘windows’, making the boat lighter and
allowing this area to be enjoyed even on
rainy days. |

undergone a full repaint and has been
sign written with our Excellence Afloat
at Valley Cruises logo. |

attention. We are confident that, when ‘Visit
Britain’ assess Elan in March, the littlest
Valley will be awarded a prestigious three stars
- the maximum a boat with this berth arrangement
can receive. More importantly, those of you who
know and love this boat should be delighted that
we have kept its charm and cosiness whist
upgrading it to the luxurious standards
associated with Excellence Afloat at Valley
Cruises. Those of you booking Elan for the first
time should recognise its high standard of
workmanship and level of comfort and quality. As
an extra bonus for old and new customers alike
we have not increased the cost of hiring Elan
above the normal annual inflation rate. This
means that you can have a short break or longer
on a luxury narrow boat for a bargain, budget
price. I’d book now – before word gets out! |

Visit Britain Assessment 25.4.08 Excellence Afloat
Awarded Three - Five Stars
Visit Britain, who are the independent
assessors of "Quality in Tourism - For a Quality Service
you can Trust", visited us today for their annual
inspection of our fleet and marina. We are happy to
announce that the fleet's brand new Thames Valley has
received the top ranking FIVE STARS. Roman Valley, after
her partial refit, received a "top of the range" THREE
STARS, the maximum that a boat of her layout can be
awarded, and Elan Valley, after her full refit, was also
give the layout maximum THREE STARS. All the other boats
have retained their maximum star ratings. This means
that the addition and improvement of boats this year has
increased our fleets' average star rating and we are
delighted that Excellence Afloat has continued to
advance Valley Cruises' 23 years of industry leading
distinction. |
